Portfolio

Maybe completed? Submitted the link, but I'm not sure I did it correctly. Everyone did different things with theirs- some took screenshots, some didn't... It all serves the same purpose. I hope it's alright!

Twitter Woes

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8173731.stm

Well, a woman is being sued for her comments made on Twitter about her crappy apartment complex.
In the article, "Marian Wang of ChicagoNow.com asked 'What IS a tweet anyway? Is it really considered publishing? Is it a conversation between friends in a public forum, like the electronic version of a coffee shop, where you can gripe privately but have your gripes overheard?'".

I think it's absolutely absurd.

Portfolio

Working on the Portfolio and last writing assignment for Dr. Alman's class- it's hard to believe the first semester is soon over! I can't wait to start taking classes in my specialty... I've heard such good things about them! I wish we had focused more on web site creation in 2600, as I have such a desire to learn the complexities of it. So much has changed since I last created a web site.... and the web site I am creating for this class is painfully simple. Here's hoping that I'll sometime soon find the time to teach myself... just like I keep telling myself one of these days I will teach myself how to speak Russian....

Wikipedia Lawsuit

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8156268.stm

Well this article is extremely interesting, following what our Hot Topic presentation was about- copyright. It's funny how some people are so willing to share their information and resources online, and others are doing everything they can to prevent it.

Pittsburgh

I'm really glad I looked ahead to the next assignment. It's always helpful to read the discussion board before I start an assignment- gives me an idea of the troubleshooting I'll encounter and what sorts of things to keep in mind. Now I know how to begin- and though I had planned to do so tonight before I crash, I forgot that I don't have any necessary programs or materials here on my laptop- they are all on my desktop back home. And when I get home, it'll be playing catch-up at work and my birthday- so I sure hope I find time to do this! That's why it would have been nice to get it done tonight.... but oh well. At least I have a better idea of what's expected.

I miss having a good website- I have been inspired by all this talk of HTML and CSS to create one. I am so jealous of people who have programs like Dreamweaver or the new Photoshop (*drool*). But there's just no money for it. So I suppose my creativity will just have to wait until I'm a millionaire :)

Time to go to bed- tomorrow is the last day on campus... just as I've finally become accustomed to the area (relatively speaking...) and to the schedule, it's time to leave again! But it was helpful, especially to talk to Dr. Biagini, and I'm glad we came to campus. I'm not glad at the amount of money I had to spend, but.. I suppose those parking garages just HAVE to charge exorbitant amounts for their spots...

Goodnight....

Assignment 7

Well, I just finished Assignment 7.
I didn't really like using Amaya, and I hope I can someday get Dreamweaver to make a better looking website. But alas, I am super broke. I remember having software to make beautiful websites on my parent's old computer... using this program was like using MS DOS. Amaya is also not user friendly at all.
So check it out: I got the assignment done ONE DAY EARLY! But that's because we'll be in Pittsburgh, so... :) Call it necessity instead of planning ahead.
I thought the unix server was pretty easy to use, and the tutorials that Dr. Tomer and UPenn provided were pretty helpful. I can't say I would be great at doing something complicated using these servers, but it's pretty basic- similar to what I used at Penn State. I bet this would be a lot easier if I were on Pitt's campus doing this!
Well, off to bed... and oh, I have to submit that paper to Dr. Alman! How do I keep forgetting!
Goodnight!

Next Assignment

Well, I'm looking forward to starting the next assignment for LIS2600... and hopefully finish it early this time.
Hopefully.
I had a family emergency the other night so now I'm hoping to get past that scare and get back in the swing of things- I can't forget to turn in the paper to Dr. Alman, though there's a million things on my mind right now...

Koha woes

Koha was infinitely frustrating- it was running terribly slow and kept locking me out. Finally I used IE and it worked better than Firefox... it also recognized less than half of the ISBN Numbers I used- and only gave a max of 5 results when I tried to search by title or author. That project was VERY frustrating.
